These manufacturers offer excellent efficiency (20-22%), long warranties (25-30 years), and proven durability. For inverters, Fronius, SolarEdge, Huawei, and Sungrow are popular choices. We compare products from all major brands to help you find the best fit.

Question 5

Ποιες κρατικές επιδοτήσεις είναι διαθέσιμες το 2025;

Accepted Answer

Question 6

Do I need batteries with my solar system?

Accepted Answer

Batteries are optional in Cyprus. With net metering, you can sell excess energy to EAC without batteries. However, batteries provide:

(1) Energy independence during grid outages

(2) Backup power for critical loads

(3) Maximized self-consumption, especially if you use more energy in evenings

Hybrid inverters allow adding batteries later as prices decrease.

Question 7

Τι είναι το Net-Metering στην Κύπρο;

Accepted Answer

Question 8

What is Net-Billing (Self-Consumption) in Cyprus?

Accepted Answer

Net-Billing, also called Self-Consumption, is a scheme where you primarily use the solar energy you generate directly in your home. Any excess energy can be sold to EAC at a wholesale rate (typically lower than retail prices). Unlike Net-Metering, you don't get 1:1 credits. This scheme encourages battery storage to maximize self-consumption and is better suited for homes with high daytime energy usage or those wanting energy independence with battery backup.

Question 9

What is an inverter and what are the different types?

Accepted Answer

A solar inverter is the brain of your solar system - it converts DC electricity from your panels into AC electricity that your home appliances use. There are four main types available in Cyprus:

(1) String/Grid-Tie Inverters - Traditional and cost-effective, one inverter handles your entire system. Compatible with the Net-Metering scheme.

(2) Hybrid Inverters - Can work with batteries for energy storage, perfect for adding batteries now or later. Most compatible with the Net-Billing (Self-Consumption) scheme.

(3) Micro-inverters - One small inverter per panel, excellent for shaded roofs but more expensive.

(4) Off-grid Inverters - Designed for standalone systems without grid connection.

Most homes choose string or hybrid inverters depending on their billing scheme and whether they want battery storage capability.

Question 10

Should I consider an off-grid system?

Accepted Answer

Off-grid systems require only your estimated usage and your expectations of the solar system. No applications, no forms, no approval - it's quite straightforward and a much faster process. While initial costs are slightly higher due to battery requirements, the benefits are substantial: complete energy independence, no grid connection paperwork, and freedom from EAC residential limits.

Question 11

Πόσο καιρό διαρκεί η εγκατάσταση φωτοβολταϊκών;

Accepted Answer

Question 12

What documents do I need for installation?

Accepted Answer

Required documents depend on your installation type:

**Residential:**
• Last 12 months electricity bills
• Recent utility bill with your name
• Property title deed
• Building license
• All owners' written approval (if multiple owners)
• Neighborhood plot plan
• First home declaration
• Proof of permanent residence (6 months of bills)
• Vulnerable group certification (if applicable)

**Commercial:**
• Last 12 months electricity consumption
• Recent utility bill
• Property title
• Plot plan

**Off-Grid:**

• Your expectations from the system
• No applications, no forms, no approvals needed!

Question 13

Χρειάζονται συντήρηση τα φωτοβολταϊκά;

Accepted Answer

Question 14

(1) Price per kWp installed

(2) Panel efficiency and warranty (25+ years)

(3) Inverter quality and type (string vs. hybrid)

(4) Installation reputation and reviews

(5) Total system output (kWh per year)

(6) After-sales service and monitoring

Our platform automatically compares these factors to show you the best value options.

Question 15

Τι γίνεται αν τα ηλιακά μου πάνελ υποστούν ζημιά;

Accepted Answer

Question 16

How long do solar panels last?

Accepted Answer

Solar panels typically last 25-30+ years with minimal degradation. Quality panels degrade at only 0.3-0.8% per year, meaning after 25 years, they still produce 80-90% of original output. Inverters have shorter lifespans (10-15 years) but are easier and less expensive to replace. With proper maintenance, your solar investment will generate electricity for decades.
